Shaken vs. Stirred Cocktails Class

Ever wonder why James Bond drinks his Martini shaken, not stirred?


Let’s spend an evening, learning about the difference between shaken and stirred cocktails while making some delicious drinks. In this class, I will explain the science, history and the logic behind both methods.


In this interactive virtual class, we will be making 4 cocktails. Few classics and some variations, while exploring the basics of mixology.

Gold Rush

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Bourbon or Rye whiskey

1 ounce Fresh Honey Syrup

3/4 ounce Fresh Lemon Juice


METHOD

1. Combine whiskey, honey syrup & lemon juice in a cocktail shaker

2. Add ice and shake well

3. Double strain into Old Fashioned glass and garnish with lemon peel


Cosmopolitan

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Gin or Vodka

3/4 ounce Triple Sec

1/2 ounce Lime Juice

1/2 ounce Berry Juice OR 1 TBSP Fresh Berries

1/2 ounce Simple Syrup


METHOD 1: Fresh Berries

1. Add fresh berries, simple syrup, lime juice into cocktail shaker and muddle gently

2. Add Triple Sec and Gin or Vodka

3. Shake well & double strain into cocktail or martini glass

4. Garnish with lime wheel and/or fresh berries


METHOD 2: Fresh Juice

1. Add fresh berry & lime juices, simple syrup, Triple Sec and Gin or Vodka into cocktail shaker

2. Shake well & double strain into cocktail or martini glass

3. Garnish with lime wheel and/or fresh berries


French 75

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Gin or Vodka

1 ounce Fresh Lemon Juice

2 TSP Simple Syrup

2 ounces Champagne or Sparkling Wine


METHOD

1. Add lemon juice, simple syrup and Gin or Vodka into cocktail shaker

2. Shake well & double strain into cocktail or champagne flute

3. Top with Champagne or Sparkling Wine

4. Garnish with Fresh berry or Lemon peel


Old Biddy INGREDIENTS 2 ounces Rye whiskey 6 to 8 slices English cucumber 1/2 ounce simple syrup 8 to 10 mint leaves 4 to 5 lime slices Splash of soda METHOD 1. Combine limes, cucumber, mint & simple syrup in a tumbler 2. Muddle to extract juices and oils 3. Add rye whiskey and ice 4. Shake & double strain into Old Fashioned glass 5. Top with a splash of soda 6. Garnish with mint sprig


Southside

INGREDIENTS

5 Mint leaves

2 ounces Plymouth Gin

3/4 ounces Fresh Lime Juice

3/4 ounces Simple syrup


METHOD

1. In a shaker, muddle mint and simple syrup

2. Add Lime Juice, Gin and Ice

3. Shake & strain into Old Fashioned glass

4. Garnish with mint leaf


Old Fashioned

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces spirit (Rye, Gin, Rum, etc)

1/2 tsp Simple Syrup

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters


METHOD

1. Add ice to a chilled Old Fashioned Glass

2. Add all ingredients and Stir

3. Garnish with lemon or orange peel


Manhattan

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Rye whiskey

3/4 ounce Sweet Vermouth

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters


METHOD

1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice

2. Stir until well-chilled and strain into chilled Old Fashioned glass

3. Garnish with lemon peel


Reverse Manhattan

INGREDIENTS

1 ounces Rye whiskey

2 ounce Sweet Vermouth

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters

METHOD

1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice

2. Stir until well-chilled and strain into chilled Old Fashioned glass

3. Garnish with lemon peel


Rob Roy

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Blended Scotch whiskey

3/4 ounce Sweet Vermouth

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters


METHOD

1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice

2. Stir until well-chilled and strain into chilled Old Fashioned glass

3. Garnish with lemon peel


Vermouth Spritz

INGREDIENTS

2 ounce Sweet Vermouth

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters

3 oz Club Soda


METHOD

1. Add all the ingredients into a Highball glass with ice

2. Stir until well-chilled and garnish with lemon peel


Blood & Bourbon

INGREDIENTS

1 ounces Bourbon or Rye whiskey

1 ounce Sweet Vermouth

1 ounce Triple Sec or Orange Curacao

2 dashes Aromatic Bitters


METHOD

1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice

2. Stir until well-chilled and strain into chilled Old Fashioned glass

3. Garnish with orange peel

Sazerac

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces Rye whiskey or Cognac

1/2 tsp Simple Syrup

3 dashes Peychaud Bitters

1/4 oz Absinthe or Herbsaint Anise Liqueur


METHOD

1. Pre-chill an Old Fashioned Glass

2. Add spirit, simple syrup, and Peychaud bitters into a mixing glass with ice

3. Stir until fully chilled

4. Add Absinthe or Herbsaint to the pre-chilled Old Fashioned glass, rotate sideways until inside of glass is fully rinsed and discard any excess

5. Strain the cocktail into the old fashioned glass

4. Garnish with lemon or orange peel
